Karen graduated from Kent County High School in 1981. After graduation she married Leo and settled down to raise a family in Burke, VA. She and her family came home to Chestertown in 1998. In 1997, around a single ‘woman in need’, she gathered a group of friends to support and guide a family in crisis. From that small act was born the Women in Need organization, one of the Upper Shore’s most prolific agencies supporting families, single parents, the elderly and struggling low income populations in need of guidance. Karen and her family are members of Hope Fellowship Church In Chestertown.

I am a wife and mother to two amazing little boys. For ten years, I have enjoyed being a Sunday School teacher and working in other ways to try and care for those in my community. I am also lucky enough to have a job that I love as the Director of Family & Community Partnerships in Kent County (Kent County’s Local Management Board). In that capacity, I have the privilege of working with many groups, agencies and individuals who share the same goal of creating better services, programs and opportunities that enable children and families to feel connected, successful, and strong.
