Mission Statement

To help families improve their life by providing programs and services that educate, enrich and empower.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress” – James 1:27

Vision

WIN’s goal is to provide unique assistance that fills the gap between what is available and what is necessary. Many organizations exist that offer various levels of assistance, and we do not intend to duplicate any existing program.

History

Women In Need began in 1997 when Karen Dionisio, an Eastern Shore Native, was confronted with a woman in need and she took action. Karen gathered a group of friends to help this woman and her family. As a result of this single act of kindness, the non-profit organization “Women in Need, Inc.”(WIN) was born.

WIN began its work in the community through it’s array of programs such as: Emergency Assistance, Transitional Housing and Rental Subsidies. After many years, we began to realize that in order to achieve our mission of helping families “improve their life through programs and services that educate, enrich and empower;” we needed to shift our focus onto preparing for the long-term.

WIN now provides education and day care scholarships geared specifically toward furthering the education of single parent families. This new program will help families achieve independence through greater employment prospects and allow them to better provide for their families.
