Our Beginning

Women In Need began in 1997 when Karen Dionisio, an Eastern Shore Native, was confronted with a woman in need and she took action. Karen gathered a group of friends to help this woman and her family crisis. As a result of this single act of kindness, the non-profit organization “Women in Need, Inc.”(WIN) was born.

WIN began to help women in crisis, through it’s array of programs such as: Emergency Assistance, Transitional Housing, Rental Subsidies, and more.

Soon, we began to realize in order to achieve their mission of helping families “improve their life through programs and services that educate, enrich and empower”; they needed to shift their focus onto preparing for the long-term.

Our Vision

WIN’s goal is to provide unique assistance that fills the gap between what is available and what is necessary.

Many organizations exist that offer various levels of assistance, and we do not intend to duplicate any existing program.

The Results

WIN’s goal is to provide unique assistance that fills the gap between what is available and what is necessary. Many organizations exist that offer various levels of assistance, and we do not intend to duplicate any existing program.

To that end, we are now providing education and day care scholarships geared specifically toward furthering the education of single parent families.
